Voters in NY report problems at polling locations

Cuomo has said that he had no knowledge of the mailer and said through a spokeswoman that the language was "inappropriate".

Despite enthusiasm for Nixon in some quarters and on social media, Cuomo has held substantial leads against Nixon in the polls.

"With anti-Semitism and bigotry on the rise, we can't take a chance with inexperienced Cynthia Nixon, who won't stand strong for our Jewish communities", the mailer sent Saturday to some 7,000 Jewish households, said.

"He is an experienced man and she is totally inexperienced", said Cuomo voter Jack Buchanan, 87, on the Upper East Side. The Times, which endorsed Cuomo, called the mailer "a disgrace", and Randi Weingarten, a Cuomo supporter whose wife is the rabbi at a synagogue that Nixon attends, said the notion that Nixon is anti-Semitic is a "baseless lie", New York Magazine reported.

"Cynthia Nixon did not have the money, didn't have the organization and never really caught on".

Should she pull off the impossible it will be a humiliating blow to a governor said to harbor presidential ambitions, and who served as a cabinet secretary under Bill Clinton at the tender age of 39.

Are New York ballots not standardized across the state?

The stakes are high for Mr. Cuomo even if he wins, according to Jeanne Zaino, professor of political science at Iona College in NY.

"It is hard to go up against the Cuomo machine and it takes an enormous amount of bravery, but we are exhausted of the status Cuomo", she added.

"If he wins tomorrow, and if the margin is not as big as he wants, and if he doesn't get the lieutenant governor that he wants, he's not going to be a happy camper", Ms. Zaino said.

Nixon's campaign slammed what they called the governor's "secret rally", saying in part, "The blowback from Cuomo's bridge and mailer scandals have forced him into hiding, while Cynthia is gaining momentum and talking to excited voters at five different campaign stops".

Cuomo has also battled with the state teacher's union after pushing for an evaluation system that was linked to student test scores during his first term.

Nixon has campaigned hard to the left, hoping to ride the crest of other upset victories by political first-timers in Democratic Party primaries in congressional seats in places like NY and Boston.

"Do gay people turn out to elect the first gay attorney general, or do African Americans turn out to elect the first African American woman attorney general, or do they turnout for Zephyr Teachout?" The other candidates are Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney and former Cuomo official Leecia Eve.

Should Cuomo win, he would be heavily favored against Republican Marc Molinaro, the Dutchess County executive, in the November general election. He's spent millions on ads and tried to make the race about Republican President Donald Trump, arguing that he's the best qualified to govern and push back against the White House.
