Johnny Depp’s Notorious B.I.G Film Has Release Date Pulled

Global Road Entertainment - which has so far released action movie Hotel Artemis, canine comedy Show Dogs and romantic drama Midnight Sun in 2018 - had previously set City of Lies for a September 7 bow.

The film-based on the book LAbyrinth by Randal Sullivan-follows retired LAPD detective Russell Poole, who originally led the investigation of the Notorious B.I.G.'s 1997 murder.

Another month, another worsening string of fates for Johnny Depp. Whittaker plays journalist Jack Johnson, who joins forces with Poole to solve the murder.

Rap fans are going to have to wait a little longer than expected to see an upcoming Johnny Depp-starring film about the unsolved murders of Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac.

Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer, The Infiltrator) directed the movie, which had a script by actor-turned-screenwriter Christian Contreras. No word on if this means the film is simply getting a new release window, if it will be moved to streaming services, or if it won't receive a release entirely. The crew member also claimed that he was sacked from City of Lies after refusing to sign a non-disclosure agreement that would've prevented him from suing Depp.

City of Lies also stars Forest Whitaker.

The film had a hard production process with Depp allegedly assaulting a crew member, former location manager Greg "Rocky" Brooks, on set in Los Angeles.

The 55-year-old stars as villain Grindelwald in the Harry Potter spin-off, but his inclusion in the film has been criticised due to the allegations of physical abuse made against him by ex-wife Amber Heard.
