Google officially names Android 9 as Android Pie

"But these features are available in beta now for Pixel phones running Android 9", wrote Samat.

Highly anticipated: A marketing post allegedly made by Google on Famebit shows that the Pixel 3 will be launching on October 4. It is said that the company has confirmed to YouTube influencers in Canada that the new Pixel family will debut on October 4. Everyone else will be waiting on their manufactures to release the update but the company does say devices that participated in the Beta program from Sony Mobile, Xiaomi, HMD Global, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus and Essential, as well as all qualifying Android One devices, will receive this update by the end of this fall.

It's no secret that Google will launch Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones in the coming months, but the exact release date has proved elusive. It does come with support for a few gestures that are similar to what we have seen in the iPhone X. But despite keeping the same material design - now whiter and flatter - it is definitely a bigger release than the Android 8 was compared to the Android 7.

Most Galaxy users are focused on Android Oreo and rightfully so.

First and foremost is the new look and navigation method. Android 9 also brings important privacy improvements, such as TLS by default and DNS over TLS to help protect all web communications and keep them private. A swipe to the left or right on the new single button will quickly switch between apps.

Google also confirmed earlier that Android One and Project Treble will allow more devices to get upgraded to Android Pie.

Android Pie arrives right on time, based on Google's developer preview timeline. The dashboard is part of Google's new Digital Wellbeing initiative, which aims to help users curb smartphone addiction.

Well, this one sort of took us by surprise.

Apart from the Digital WellBeing, other key features of the Android P include Adaptive Battery, Adaptive Brightness, App Actions, Slices and Smart Text Selections. Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness will help improve performance and battery life. The phone will also attempt to predict what apps you like to run by displaying short-cuts to them during certain pairs of the day. Android Pie is set to roll out to Pixel devices today, just around two days before Samsung will take the stage in NY to unveil the Galaxy Note 9.
