Johnny Manziel will make CFL debut this week against former team

The chants were, of course, made in reference to fans wanting to see newly acquired quarterback Johnny Manziel hit the field, but Adams, who went 15-for-28 for 217 yards and an interception on Thursday, believes the fans were unfair to him.

Johnny Manziel will make his Canadian Football League debut against his former team. But while many are excited to see what Manziel can do in his first regular-season CFL playing time, the man he's replacing is not.

"My performance was not flawless, but I think I played a pretty good game overall", Adams said.

Manziel will make his first CFL start Friday night when the Montreal Alouettes host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Instead, Adams took every snap in the 44-23 loss as the Alouettes dropped to 1-5 on the season. "It was a lack of respect and it affected me", he added.

Manziel said his relationship with Adams remains solid. During two brief preseason appearances with Hamilton, Manziel wasn't bad, as he completed 21 of 31 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown, while rushing six times for 19 yards.

During his two seasons in the NFL, Manziel appeared in 14 games. The Browns cut Manziel in 2016 after two seasons of inconsistent play and off-the-field issues.

Friday's contest will be Manziel's first regular-season start since December 27, 2015 when he completed 13-of-32 passes for 136 yards and an interception while running for 108 yards in Cleveland's 17-13 road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

"I think there's some good things".

"Johnny will start the game".

"Instinctively a lot of guys would just try to be a runner and get a lot of accolades for being a running quarterback, but sooner or later you're going to have to pull the trigger as a quarterback and we felt that he showed that in the pre-season".
