YouTube Welcomes Android Users To Embrace The Dark Side With Dark Mode

The dark mode debuted on iOS devices earlier this year and it has finally made it to Android as well. For more details on dark mode, check out our guide.

The rollout is occurring in phases and there's no definite timeframe that details when it will be completed.

Over the weekend, some lucky users began to see the dark theme appear in their YouTube app's settings and while it is by no means widespread, it is progress. The app version is in use by quite a few people who don't have dark mode which leads us to believe it's a server side switch - so expect the long slow trollout we've come to expect from Google.

The alternative theme exchanges YouTube's white backgrounds and menus for a deep grey, aiming to alleviate the eye strain associated with brighter light when viewing in a darker room or at nighttime.

A toggle for the dark theme will also be added to the YouTube app's general settings, should you wish to disable it.

Google is rolling out a dark theme for YouTube on Android, 9to5Google reported.

What is the one thing that could make the most popular video streaming service an even better experience?

The lucky user said he simply went to bed and, on waking up, the YouTube app has changed. If the feature is available, you will be notified about it when you open the YouTube app.
