President Trump meets Kim Jong Un

U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un warmly greeted one another Tuesday as they kicked off their highly anticipated denuclearization talks in Singapore.

"A long trip, but everybody can now feel much safer than the day I took office", Trump simpered. Trump said he believes his "very good relationship" with Kim brought them to this moment - and added that Kim told him that only Trump could have gotten him to the negotiating table.

Trump has said he'll know within minutes whether a deal can be made to settle a standoff over Pyongyang's nuclear program.

There was also no mention in the North Korean coverage of the missile-engine testing site which Trump said he persuaded Kim to agree to shut down.

Before signing what Trump described as a "comprehensive letter", Kim said the two leaders had held a historic meeting "and chose to leave the past behind".

The coverage in the state-run paper, including 33 images of Mr. Trump, Mr. Kim and others at the summit, praised the "will of the top leaders of the two countries to put an end to the extreme hostile relations between the DPRK and the U.S".

The president declared on Twitter "there is no longer a nuclear threat from North Korea" and "sleep well tonight".

Trump, who returned to Washington early on Wednesday, hailed the meeting with Kim, the first between a sitting U.S. president and a North Korean leader, as a success that had removed the North Korean threat. "I said, I have something to say from North Korea".

"The problem with inter-Korean reconciliation projects is that sanctions will not be lifted if there's no implementation of denuclearization", said Shin Beomchul, senior fellow at Seoul's Asan Institute for Policy Studies think tank.

Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said Tuesday that he wants Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to brief senators on the substance of what the two nations discussed, including whether US troops stationed on the Korean Peninsula would remain.

Pompeo also sought to counter concerns that North Korea and the USA came away from the talks with fundamentally different interpretations.

Pompeo also said Trump had been "unambiguous" in his conversations with Kim regarding the suspension of joint U.S.

Trump is delusional. His Kim Jong Un speed date does not make the NK nuclear threat go away. To shore up more support, Pompeo heads to Beijing to brief Chinese officials Thursday.

The move - long demanded by Pyongyang - has been seen as a major concession to North Korea and appeared to take United States allies in the region by surprise.

Trump's tweets followed a high-profile summit which yielded a renewed promise by Kim to "denuclearize" the Korean Peninsula but was scant on details.

Asked by reporters how he felt after the historic meeting at a luxury resort in SIngapore early on June 12, Trump responded: "I feel really great". Defense Secretary James Mattis' chief spokeswoman, Dana W. White, told reporters he was "in full alignment" with Trump. -South Korean drill that is due in August, Reuters reported.

"The United States is our ally, so the joint military drills are still necessary to maintain our relationship with the US", said Lee Jae Sung, from Incheon. He said he planned to continue sharing the view with Washington and Seoul.
