Resident Evil 2 Remake Officially Revealed, Coming January 2019

Horror fans need no fret, however, the Resident Evil 2 Remake has you covered.

As shown during Sony's E3 2018 press conference, the Resident Evil 2 remake is much more than a new coat of paint, a few features, and fixes to the original game's janky camera system. Simply known as Resident Evil 2, this remake has been made in Capcom's proprietary RE Engine, the same engine behind last year's rather excellent Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. The setting is Raccoon City, whose citizens have, as you could probably guess, been turned into ravenous zombies by a disastrous plague. Each will have their own separate playable campaigns, allowing gamers to experience the story from both characters' perspectives. We've been very eager to unveil the new game to the world this week. They must work together to survive and get to the bottom of what is behind the terrifying attack. That's a pretty quick turnaround for a game that just got its first trailer. This is a complete and total remake of the original title that actually looks better than most modern games. "T$3 he characters themselves appear sharper than ever and the grotesque hordes of zombies are brought to life with a horrifyingly realistic wet gore effect", it said. We also noticed the new character models for Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, and I'm certain that some of you will not like them.

The big picture: The original Resident Evil was an absolutely groundbreaking game when it launched on the PlayStation more than two decades ago. Players will feel they're in the shoes of heroes Leon and Claire, terrified to step out of the light for fear of what flesh-eating nightmares might await them in the darkness.

Resident Evil 2 is getting an HD remake, and it's coming out on January 25, 2019.
