Gronkowski Unlikely Runner-Up in Belmont Stakes

Drawn in the unfavorable first post, Justify burst from the gate under jockey Mike Smith and never trailed in the 1 1/2 mile race dubbed the "Test of the Champion".

Justify came home 1¾ lengths ahead of Gronkowski, the former Jeremy Noseda-trained colt whose previous win was on the all-weather at Newcastle.

The colt became the 13th Triple Crown victor in history.

"You can't doubt him now, there's no way", said Bill Mott, trainer of third-place Hofburg.

When it comes to the Belmont Stakes, none have owned the race more than Eddie Arcaro.

"We had already had a great run with him and were very proud of what he had achieved".

Coolmore will reportedly breed Justify primarily in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere, where he could breed at least 250 times in his first year.

"Opinions die, but facts live forever, and that's what the Triple Crown is all about", Baffert said.

Justify, bred by Langley, B.C.'s John Gunther, took the Belmont Stakes by one-and-three quarter lengths today on Saturday.

The horse's first victory at the Santa Anita Park in California a few months ago convinced Baffert that he might be training a champion.

He was assigned odds of 12-1 on the morning line, and the snickering from handicappers began: How many people will wager on this horse just because of his name?

Seven of these horses (including Justify) Ran in the Kentucky Derby, but none proved much of a challenge to him there.

The 37-year wait for the Triple Crown of horse racing, mercifully ended three years ago when wonderful American Pharoah crossed the finish line first at the 2015 Belmont Stakes, was at the same time exasperating, demoralizing, and borderline comical.

American Pharoah was the last horse to win the Triple Crown, capturing horse-racing's storied trifecta in 2015.

Prior to his victory, the thoroughbred had a ideal 5-0 record in his brief career and had won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.

Baffert joined Fitzsimmons as the only trainers to oversee two Triple Crown winners.

"I just won the Triple Crown, man".

Horse racing's latest superstar will attempt to become the 13th Triple Crown victor in U.S. Thoroughbred racing and he has a great chance to accomplish the feat. The inaugural victor was a New York-bred filly named Ruthless.

"We're looking forward to sharing him [with the public] more, " said Elliott Walden, the CEO and racing manager for WinStar Farm, which owns a majority share of the horse. You know, I was meant to get this horse. Hofburg; 2. Justify; 3. "It's an intriguing race, but i think Justify gets the job done". And it was also Good Magic who took the race right to Justify right from the start before succumbing grudgingly from the effort to finish a game but tiring fourth in the Preakness.
