Photo shared by Angela Merkel hints at tension at G7

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he was in favor of Russia's return to the G8.

To Abe's left stands USA national security adviser John Bolton, the only one in the picture who looked as if he might have been in the middle of talking.

Photographs from the Group of Seven summit in Canada provided by the German and American governments have offered contrasting images of their leaders.

The picture of the German Chancellor, shared on her Instagram account, has invited hilarious captions and memes on social media with many calling it an "iconic photo" of the summit. This puts him in a difficult position - he has tried hard to cultivate a warm relationship with President Trump and the two are said to have met at least 10 times since he was elected to the White House.

Subsequently, the new Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte supported the call trump on the return of Russian Federation to the G7.

And another photo taken by Mr Trudeau's official photographer Adam Scotti shows a slightly happier scene, with Mrs Merkel smiling with Mr Trump and Mr Trudeau seeming to laugh.

Some felt it was this power dynamic that Merkel's photo perfectly captured.

The Question Time had begun with tame questions regarding Chancellor Merkel's opinions upon the upcoming G7 Summit which was scheduled to be held in Quebec soon.

With as neutral an expression as possible, she stares directly at President Trump, who sits on the other side of the table.

Macron also tweeted Saturday a photo of the other leaders and aides surrounding Trump, who was one of just two people sitting.
