Watch the heartbreaking first trailer for HBO's Robin Williams documentary

HBO's Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind, which also reportedly features Eric Idle, Whoopi Goldberg, David Letterman and Pam Dawber, is scheduled to air on July 16.

Robin Williams committed suicide at his home in Marin County on August 11, 2014.

HBO has debuted an official trailer for Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind, made by doc filmmaker Marina Zenovich (of Richard Pryor: Omit the Logic, Water & Power: A California Heist). However, the actor also showcased versatility with critically-acclaimed roles in One Hour Photo and Gus Van Sant's Good Will Hunting, revealing that Williams was far from a one-trick-pony. It follows Robin Williams through his life and career, until his suicide. "Off stage, I just really felt he was holding himself together".

"For me, stand-up is survival", he notes.

"My father didn't always feel he was succeeding", Zak, who bears a striking resemblance to his father, says. "But he is the most successful person I know".

The first trailer for the documentary can be seen below featuring narration from Williams as well as rare clips of the late comedian doing sketch and standup from the early days of his career. In May, a biography of the actor titled Robin, written by Dave Itzkoff claimed that Williams suffered from Lewy body dementia, which drove him to despair and ultimately, suicide.

Not only does the documentary use ample footage of Williams taken from interviews and standup shows, it includes insight from those who knew him well.
