Steam accidentally leaks Just Cause 4 before reveal

Those lucky enough to see the ad first-hand could click on the image, but it only loaded the Steam homepage.

Publisher Square Enix and developer Avalanche Studios management will be issuing a big sigh, groan, or be sitting with heads in hands this morning after Steam managed to leak an unannounced game. This wasn't the first time this has happened this year, however, as only last month Just Cause 4 appeared alongside Lego DC Villains, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Rage 2 on Walmart Canada's website. Square Enix will host its E3 2018 press conference on June 11, so we can expect its announcement there as they'll be publishing the game. After multiple refreshes, however, the Just Cause 4 tile is still there. It's also a safe bet that Just Cause 4 will be powered by Avalanche's in-house APEX engine, as all the other games they're working on.

It seems we can add Just Cause 4 to that list, assuming Valve isn't straight up trolling us here.

In the background of the image - grabbed by freelance gamers journalist, Steven Oz - you can see a Square Enix logo, suggesting that the Japanese publisher will continue to act as the publisher for the famously independent Avalanche Studios. Just Cause 3 was the epitome of this ideal, but Just Cause 4 will look to expand upon that in numerous ways. we'd imagine.

Avalanche Studios can't catch a break, can it?
