Rez and Lumines Creator Announces Tetris PSVR title, Tetris Effect

The game will come this fall for PS4 with a PlayStation VR mode included, and it will be playable at E3. I definitely saw Tetris blocks in there somewhere, but they were buried under several layers of intriguing visuals and audio, paired with discussion of people seeing Tetris blocks outside of playing the game itself. It's also what may be Sony's most exciting announcement to date for PSVR. A new "Zone" mechanic allows you to stop time and blocks from falling, allowing you to get the upper hand in getting out of a sticky situation that could end in game over (or simply giving you the chance to score even more line clears).

Tetris Effect looks like something cooked up by Marvel's Doctor Strange, as it attempts to amplify this phenomenon with some fantastic imagery, shapes and colors, combined with hypnotic music and sounds.

Enhance promises an immersive experience where "Music, backgrounds, sounds, special effects - everything, down to the Tetris pieces themselves, pulse, dance, shimmer, and explode in ideal sync with how you're playing".

Aside from that, the game has the usual array of game modes in Tetris games, such as the classic Marathon - where you play until you lose - a sped-up Sprint Mode and an Ultra mode which imposes a time limit to achieve the highest possible score.

Fully playable on either a standard display (up to 4K and 60fps on a PS4™Pro), or optionally in mind-blowing 3D on PS VR. So, how will Tetris Effect actually play? Coming to PS4 with a PS VR mode in "Fall 2018", this is a game from Tetsuya Mizuguchi and the minds behind Rez Infinite and Lumen. No other platforms were mentioned.
