Trump escalates fight with ABC after Roseanne cancellation

The comedian Livia Scott tweeted that while Kimmel might know Barr personally, "this is the time for a text to her, not a tweet to us". Jarrett also said that Iger had called her before the announcement that "Roseanne" was canceled, and that Iger "apologized".

A day after the network pulled the plug on the hit "Roseanne" reboot in response to her tweet about Valerie Jarrett, a longtime adviser and close friend of former President Barack Obama, the comedian tweeted Wednesday that her initial remark was "unforgivable" and "egregious".

While some accused Kimmel of making assumptions about Barr's mental health, Barr has been fairly open her battles with mental illness over the years.

Earlier that day, she also targeted Chelsea Clinton, tweeting, "Chelsea Soros Clinton", suggesting in another tweet that the former first daughter is in cahoots with liberal businessman George Soros because she married his nephew.

Daily Wire contributor Michael Knowles said while Barr's tweet was in poor taste, "the popular furor to fire her is mostly performed and motivated by the Left's hysterical contempt for anyone even vaguely supportive of President Trump". Later, she moderated her stance: "no, I understand her position and why she said what she said. i forgive her. I think that is why I am so glad to be here this evening talking with all of you".

Barr said that she would leave Twitter as a result of the backlash she faced.

Barr's views and her connections to the extreme right are reprehensible, but, as noted above, there is nothing admirable or remotely progressive about Disney's actions, which will only make her a martyr in the eyes of the paranoid ultra-right.

Nikpour said that Barr's tweet was "ugly" and "not nice" but she said, "let's just leave it at that" and resisted Tarlov's cry to label the tweet racist. "One stupid joke in a lifetime of fighting 4 civil rights 4 minorities, against networks, studios, at the expense of my nervous system/family/wealth will NEVER b taken from me".

Barr's defenders insist that the racist tweet was just a joke. The actress replied to the user's statement and said, "I hear you and agree with you I am thankful that they canceled the show".

Roseanne has not yet responded to Trump's comment regarding her firing from ABC, although she did retweet his statement.

"It has been 24 years, so I don't know that I know who Roseanne is", he says.

For cast and crew members that did have longer-term contracts, Barr's show-sinking tweet could be deemed, unusual as it sounds, an "act of God".
