Gaza Violence: Turkey Expels Isreali Diplomat As Israel Also Retaliates

The opening of the U.S. Embassy on Monday was met with mass protests on the Gaza border, where Israeli troops killed almost 60 Palestinians and over 2,000 others, triggering a wave of worldwide condemnation.

Israel said it was a warranted response to numerous shooting incidents throughout Wednesday, including machine gun fire, which targeted the city of Sderot in the Southern District of Israel. At a border protest encampment east of Gaza City, Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, urged people to take part in mass rallies on Friday. Protests since then have dwindled. The factions said the fasting would be taken into account but marches would continue through early June.

Israeli ambassador to Australia Mark Sofer also put the case this week.
