Walmart introducing online sales of Lord & Taylor luxury items

The online boutique will debut with more than 125 names, including Vince Camuto, Miss Selfridge, Lucky Brand, Tommy Bahama, H Halston, La La Anthony and Effy.

The Lord & Taylor flagship store complements Walmart.coms everyday fashion assortment of millions of affordable, on-trend items. Beyond women's and men's styles, the store will feature shoes, handbags, accessories and jewelry as well as kids' merchandise.

Consumers will soon see two different categories on the fashion section of Walmart's website: Premium Brands and Walmart's Everyday Brands.

"We want each category to feel like you are shopping a specialty store", said Marc Lore, president and CEO of Walmart's USA e-commerce business, adding that similar partnerships with other apparel brands are planned for later this year. Or maybe it's Walmart.com that's offering shoppers a reason rethink Lord & Taylor.

Lord & Taylor got a lifeline from Walmart Inc.

The new Walmart.com is nearly here. “We are excited for the opportunity to serve exponentially more customers with our premium fashion offerings, including our famous dress selection and many stylish brands.”.

The deal with Lord & Taylor also is a means for Walmart to better compete with Amazon, which has moved aggressively into clothing sales. With fiscal year 2018 revenue of $500.3 billion, Walmart employs approximately 2.3 million associates worldwide. Like many other U.S. department stores, Lord & Taylor is trying to cut physical costs while expanding online revenue.

Hudson's Bay Co. on Monday announced that Vanessa LeFebvre has been named president of Lord & Taylor, effective May 22, reporting to HBC CEO Helena Foulkes.
