The Energy Information Administration (EIA) noted in its Short Term Energy Outlook that it expects gas prices to average $2.90 per gallon, up from the average of $2.41 last summer.

"AAA predicts that the national average may reach $3 a gallon this summer, especially if crude oil prices continue to increase", she added.

The national average is $2.86 per gallon.

Just before Memorial Day and the summer travel season, gas prices are rising across the country. "What we're seeing now is oil inventories that are 89 million lower than a year ago and gas prices rise as a result".

DeHaan said the question remained whether America's partners, called out by President Donald Trump to pressure them to follow USA sanctions against Iran, will do that. The price of a gallon of unleaded at the ARCO at Clovis and Olive is among Fresno's lowest at $3.25.

Gas in Louisiana averaged $2.57 a gallon on Monday (May 14), according to AAA's gas price index.

Fairfield and New London counties are paying the most for gas.

Oil prices are at four-year highs - raising the price of producing gasoline.

The price of the best grade of USA oil traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange for delivery in June was more than $71 a barrel on Monday afternoon while the price of the best grade of oil used in Europe was more than $78 a barrel.
