Dozens killed in Palestinian protests

Israeli and USA officials gathered in the city amidst deadly clashes in the Gaza Strip.

According to reports, Erdogan is recalling the ambassadors for consultations over Israel's brutal crackdown on the ongoing March of Return protests in the Gaza Strip, which came to a deadly head Monday as at least 55 Palestinians were killed while protesting the opening of the United States embassy in Jerusalem.

"We strongly condemn the decision of the U.S. Administration to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, violating global law and all relevant UN Resolutions".

Kushner noted that the Palestinian protesters were accused of stoking tensions by throwing rocks, firebombs, and other devices. The Palestinian Ministry of Health has recorded that 43 people have been killed during demonstrations on Monday, CNN reports. No Israeli casualties have been reported.

The OIC said the United States administration has "expressed utter disdain and disrespect to Palestinian legitimate rights and worldwide law" and shown disregard toward the sentiments of Muslims, who value Jerusalem as home to one of Islam's holiest sites, the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex. "And Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided".

"Today's ceremonial opening of the new US Embassy in Jerusalem is regrettable and makes it harder to maintain the prospect of a viable two-state solution".

He added later: "We are in Jerusalem and we are here to stay".

The State Department has issued several security alerts in the region in recent days, and last week it prohibited USA government employees from travelling to the Golan Heights, a section of Syria that is occupied by Israel.

"International resolutions declare that the status of Jerusalem - one of the most important issues of the entire peace process - must be resolved in direct negotiations between Israel and Palestine", said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Recent alerts from the USA embassy in Tel Aviv prohibited US government employee travel to the Golan Heights due to regional tension. European leaders also criticised the step and did so again on Monday.

The protesters were angry about the new U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem. Event coincided with state of Israel's 70th anniversary.
