Box Office Report: 'Avengers: Infinity War' Remains Unstoppable

After setting new milestones in North America, Disney's "Avengers: Infinity War" almost broke the all-time box office record in China. Combined with its $200 million launch in China, "Infinity War" earned $343.1 million worldwide this weekend, for a global cume of $1.6 billion. That's enough to become the fifth-highest grossing movie of all time, passing by Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Black Panther, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Furious 7, and the former king of the superhero box office, the original Marvel's The Avengers.

Given the events that transpired in Avengers: Infinity War, it makes flawless sense for Disney/Marvel to withhold what's coming next after those titles, but it's looking increasingly likely that Captain Marvel is going to reset their cinematic slate.

The third Avengers sequel continues to dominate as it enters its third week at the box office. Something, someone forgot to tell Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan about this, when he went to watch Avengers Infinity War.

Paramount's horror blockbuster A Quiet Place rounded out the top five with $6.4 million for a domestic total of $169.6 million. At this time Infinity War ranks as the eighth largest domestic release ever and it will be interesting to see how the film holds up next weekend once Deadpool 2 debuts.

Universal's Breaking In finished in third position with an estimated $16.5 million.

Do you think Avengers: Infinity War can reach $2 billion? The movie's domestic total through Sunday is $29.6 million. And this was before the film's release in China, one of the biggest markets in the world for Hollywood films.

Rom-com "Overboard" slipped from second to fourth place with a box office take of $10.1 million its second weekend in theaters. Just hit the buttons on the top of this page. And it didn't match the $19.5 million opening of Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn's Snatched over Mother's Day weekend a year ago. With that said, it will soon face some stiff competition, with Deadpool 2 opening this week and Solo: A Star Wars Story the week after.
