Australian police find 7 dead with gunshot wounds

Dawson say police have no information to raise concerns about the wider public safety.

"It's a fabulous part of the state that most of us know reasonably well".

"We are treating this as a matter in which six persons are the subject of a homicide crime scene, [while] there is a seventh person deceased".

Seven people have been killed in Australia's largest shooting in nation in more than two decades, leaving the small town in Osmiongton shocked and the topic of global headlines.

Police said the call which alerted them to the tragedy came from the Osmington property.

They include Katrina Miles, 35, her four children aged eight to 13, and Katrina's mother and father, Cynda and Peter Miles.

"We are devastated by this shocking event", the statement said. "We are stunned and still trying to understand how this could happen", the family said.

The family members asked community members to not speculate on the circumstances of the deaths, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corp.

Aaron Cockman has seen firsthand the emotional anguish Peter Miles had gone through in recent years.

Flowers have been left outside the Osmington property where the bodies of seven people were found.

"Police do not believe any other person is involved in these crimes".

When they arrived, Mr Miles's body was also found dead from a gunshot wound.

Investigators have not revealed the motive behind the shootings, with Cockman only saying he previously enjoyed a close relationship with Katrina's parents.

The farm is located in Osmington, northeast of Margaret River. One man - Peter Miles - was found outside.

He purchased the 30-acre farm in late 2014 alongside along with his spouse Cynda.

"I have extensive handyman abilities and experience with a wide variety of farm equipment, can fix fences, and can tidy up the property from storm damage", the advertisement said.

"Police are now responding to what I can only describe as a horrific incident", he said.

Investigations into the tragedy continue.

On Saturday, police confirmed three firearms were found on the premises, all registered to Peter Miles.

Within hours of the tragedy, police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the shootings.

"This is a much-loved family, a big part of the Margaret River community", Mettam told reporters. But I don't want anyone to feel angry. "It wasn't the grandfather".

It was believed those who died lived at the property, about 10 minutes drive from Margaret River, a popular tourist destination renowned for its wine, surf and natural beauty. Five people - including one woman and the four children - were found inside what he described as a "converted shed structure".

Augusta-Margaret River Shire president Pamela Townsend said the incident had impacted everyone in the area.

"This is a strong community and I know we will support each other and get through this together".

Despite the past, Cockman says he still loves Cynda.

"He did a really good job".
