Google Maps Get Explore Tab To Act As Guide To Users

If you're trying to follow a set of directions, you can now hold your phone up, and Google Maps will match the view from your camera to the saved Street View imagery of the world.

Google Maps is also getting augmented reality support that will mix the traditional Street View interface of the mapping service with a live camera view. So say goodbye to endless scrolling through lists of recommended restaurants or group texts with friends that never end in a decision on where to go.

A new tab called "For You" will be added to Google Maps, giving users custom tailored suggestions for places specified by the users, such as local neighbourhoods or frequently visited locations.

The redesigned Explore tab will show you everything that's new and interesting nearby. When checking out a specific area, Google Maps can list out the top things to do in that area, such as activities and places to eat.

Google revealed For You at its I/O 2018 developer conference with an example that showed a recommendation for a new cafe alongside reviews and a news link related to the cafe's opening.

Lin stressed that the feed isn't so much about the volume of information but about presenting the right information at the right time and for the right person. Assistant will also be able to build upon all of its new features within Maps as well.

It will also give you a sense of how close a match something is with what's called "Your Match", a score that measures how close a match of a business or place is.

Jen Fitzpatrick told that users had asked for a tool that assists them in learning the places around their locations. They can then add more places to the list and vote on them.

Google will launch this new Google Maps experience later this summer. Google News will be available in 127 countries on both Android and iOS, starting today, with a global roll-out planned for sometime later this week. They will likely come with a new app update along with many background changes.
