Instagram says video chats are still in testing and will roll out to all users over the coming weeks.

While now archive posts (images and videos) for Instagram Stories are available in the form of a list with date tags, Instagram is reportedly looking to change the UI, just a bit, to help users arrange the archive better. Soon, you'll be able to call someone within your DMs and talk to them over a video call.

'You can also minimize the video and continue the chat while doing other things on Instagram'. A new camera icon will be available on the platform.

Instagram says the new Explore page will be rolling out over the coming weeks.

The firm is also rolling out new interactive camera effects, and has overhauled its Explore tab to organize content into 'topic channels'.

Video chats are just one of the many new features coming to the app.

Facebook announced at its annual F8 developer conference on Tuesday a new feature that lets you share content from third-party apps onto your 24-hour videos.

Finally, the Explore section of the Instagram app is getting a refresh with some AI power thrown in, via TechCrunch. That was a conscious choice from the company's founders, who wanted to make sure that everything posted on the app was a reflection of what a user created, not what they curated from others.

It's going to be interesting to see what kind of implementations developers come up with, and if these features do anything to get more people excited about augmented reality as a technology.

Another new feature that may eventually be added to the app is the ability to mute profiles.

The big question is whether or not the brands that Facebook is partnering with can come up with AR features that are more than just a gimmick. Now when you're in an app like Spotify and select the sharing tool, you will see Instagram Stories as a default option.

This will allow you to show others what you're listening to, for example, or action shots from GoPro.

To avoid this, the app implemented a new approach that would change the order based on a persons relationships and interests. It's not clear if you will be able to leave the app and still chat, although that seems unlikely.
