Trump skips annual dinner for enthusiastic rally in MI

U.S. President Donald Trump said Saturday in MI state that his meeting with top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un could happen in three or four weeks.

President Donald Trump bragged to supporters at a rally in Washington Township, Michigan, on Saturday about his economic and diplomatic accomplishments and took aim at the media and the Democrats.

As November's midterm congressional elections draw closer, Mr Trump has been increasingly strident in urging voters to support Republicans as a way of advancing his agenda.

"Great evening last night in Washington, Michigan". Jon Tester of Montana and Debbie Stabenow of MI, who are running for re-election this year.

"You people just keep putting her back again and again and again", he told the capacity crowd.

"He said the other night, the fake dirty dossier", Trump continued.

In his rally remarks, Trump railed against the allegations Tester aired against Jackson and suggested that he could take a similar tack against the senator.

"I do know issues about Tester that I might say, too".

"If I said 'em, he'd never be elected again".

Trump also broke some news, threatening to shut down the government in the fall over funding for border security and saying a US-North Korea meeting to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula would take place "over the next three or four weeks".

President Trump tweeted this morning that he was looking forward to being in the "great state of Michigan" and touted what he called "major business expansion" there. "The enthusiasm, knowledge and love in that room was unreal".

"Oh it was awesome, you really get to see watching most news...he's getting beat up every day and he just comes out here and these are his people", Brett Lefebvre from West Bloomfield stated.

The rally began at 7 p.m. ET, the same time as the correspondent's dinner, an annual gathering arranged by the association representing the White House press corps.

He skipped the dinner past year.

"You know, you may have heard I was invited to another event tonight, the White House Correspondents' Dinner", he told the crowd.

That barb was directed at Michelle Wolf, who provided the after-dinner entertainment for the White House press corps and their guests, and whose performance was surprisingly racy.

"I like the most about him that he puts America first and he really I believe him and he's very honest", Gibbons stated. But he said it was necessary to push China for concessions beyond what Beijing has offered to date, even if it inflicts short-term "pain" on many Americans. Trump attended the dinner in 2011, where President Barack Obama and comedian Seth Meyers famously mocked him.

Clinton later did a partial rollback, said she had been "grossly generalistic" and regretted saying the label fit "half" of Trump's supporters. However she did not again down from the final sentiment.
