Next Hearthstone Expansion Is Called "The Witchwood", Brings New Mechanics

Blizzard announced newest Hearthstone expansion 'The Witchwood, ' only moments ago. The heroes all have a unique hero power and their own cards to help build new strategies, and each encounter you clear nets you loot in the form of cards to improve your deck for the remainder of the hunt. They all had a good laugh about it later. Titled the Witchwood, we've got a look at the first few cards for the spooky-themed add-on, and some details about what to expect from the new single-player mode. Press and members of the community will begin revealing cards starting the same day! As always, stay tuned for more information regarding Hearthstone and general gaming news!

"Dark magic has twisted the creatures of the forest and set them loose upon the Gilnean capital in Azeroth, but King Genn Greymane and his lycanthropic subjects won't make for easy prey", Blizzard said in an announcement. "They can not attack heroes until the turn after they enter play, however". There's also a tease for a Hagatha card, for those of you that have been waiting for a new Hero card.

A total of 135 new cards are being added in the upcoming expansion, and some will carry the new Echo keyword. If, for example, you have nine-mana and you have a 3-cost minion with Echo, you can play that minion three times in the same turn.

The Echo keyword, when shown in a card allows you to add a spectral copy of this card to your hand until the end of your turn, which can be played any number of times if you have the mana for it.

That will no doubt change the current meta in pretty big ways as cards from Whispers of the Old Gods, One Night in Karazhan, and Mean Streets of Gadgetzan expansions make their way to Wild and out of Standard rotation. The developers revealed the expansion's existence in a video that popped up on YouTube.

The expansion will also add a new Monster Hunt mode to the action, similar to Kobolds & Catacombs' Dungeon Run, that challenges players with a series of eight increasingly hard encounters leading into a big boss fight.
