DeShone Kizer to Packers as Part of Damarious Randall Trade with Browns

This has seen them commit to a few trades to acquire talent in exchange for a few of their plethora of draft picks.

In Green Bay, Kizer will have time to develop and the Packers can attempt to mold him into the player the Browns thought they were getting when they took him at No. 52 overall. The new Browns are ready.

There have been no reports of any sort of interest on Arizona's side, nor have there been reports of Green Bay seeking a trade. Perhaps he can grow in the Green Bay offense in a way that he never could in Cleveland?

The #Packers are trading CB Damarious Randall to the #Browns, and Cleveland is sending back QB DeShone Kizer, sources say.

Why did the Browns trade Kizer?

Less than a week ahead of the start of the free agency period, the Cleveland Browns have significantly picked up their level of activity on Friday to improve their roster. That leaves Kizer without a long-term role with the Browns, thus making him an expendable asset. The former Notre Dame quarterback started 15 games as a rookie with the Browns, but he apparently has been identified by new G.M. John Dorsey as a player who needed to go - possibly due in part to the 28 turnovers he generated past year. Hundley looked overmatched as a starter past year and there were probably a few executives in the Packers organization that notices.

The Packers were reportedly interested in Kizer before the draft, which makes this trade all the more intuitive for them.

This couldn't be better news for Kizer.

Not only was accuracy an issue, but turnovers also added to the Browns' problems. It's fine to be prepared, but starter-caliber corners don't grow on trees.

The teams have also swapped picks in the fourth and fifth rounds, according to Schefter.

Given how the Packers have framed this offseason as being defined by change and aggression, we can only assume this is a precursor to more major moves, including a potential splash for a free-agent cornerback. The last time the Browns won was Christmas Eve...2016.
