Palestinian shot dead during clashes with Israelis in the Nablus area

Clashes erupted between Palestinian youth and Israeli troops in the occupied West Bank on Friday amid ongoing demonstrations against the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, according to eyewitnesses.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in an e-mailed press statement that Mohamed Ja'barai, 24, was shot by Israeli soldiers in the chest during clashes in the the southern West Bank city of Hebron and died later in hospital.

Protests come amid tensions that rose after U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Israeli army forces arrived at the scene and clashes erupted, during which Israeli soldiers used live fire.

The Palestinians seek east Jerusalem as their future capital and view Trump's decision as siding with Israel on one of the thorniest issues at the heart of the conflict.

Following a meeting of foreign ministers of the Arab League in Cairo, Palestinian Authority (PA) Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki blamed the intergovernmental organization on Thursday for encouraging the United States "to continue with its unfortunate approach" regarding Jerusalem, reported Wafa, the official PA news site.

Majdalani said reports about USA efforts to re-settle the Palestinian refugees in the countries they are found in are part of "suspicious American moves to dismantle the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) by drying up its financial resources and then advocating re-settling the refugees in order to remove major issues such as refugee and Jerusalem from the negotiating table".

At least a dozen protesters were injured. Israel says the entire city is its indivisible, and eternal capital.
