Waffle House employee helps elderly man cut up his food

Evoni Williams, 18, an employee at the Waffle House in LaMarque, Texas, was on duty behind the counter when she noticed an elderly man struggling to cut his food, the newspaper said.

A Waffle House waitress whose act of kindness was captured on video was honored in a big way. Without hesitation, she took his plate and began cutting up his ham.

The customer mentioned his hands didn't "work too good", so Williams made a decision to help him out by lending a helping hand.

"This may seem small but to him, I'm sure it was huge", Wolf wrote.

The diner, Laura Wolf, went on to post the photo on Facebook, where it fetched thousands of likes and comments praising Williams's caring nature.

"I didn't know the photo was taken until a couple hours later". She said she felt she was only doing the right thing and is surprised by the attention.

La Marque Mayor Bobby Hocking on Thursday issued a proclamation making March 8 Evoni Williams Day.

She's been working there since graduating high school to save up for college.

"It just came from the heart", the teen told the television station. She works at a Waffle House in La Marque and has been saving money for college.

She and her mother were brought to tears when she was presented with a $16,000 scholarship to Texas Southern University.
