It didn't happen: Gary Oldman's son defends him against abuse allegations

Donya Fiorentino has claimed that she suffered years of physical and mental abuse from Oldman, who won Best Actor at the Oscars for The Darkest Hour.

Gulliver launched a passionate defence of his famous father in an open letter calling Oldman "his hero" and "the man he aspires to be". Her claims were investigated by the police, but no charges were filed. "Anyone who says it did is lying", Gulliver said in a statement. He says that "there is only innocence" in his father's case and that "there never has been any guilt".

GARY Oldman has three sons - Alfie, Charlie and Gulliver.

Charlie and Gulliver joined their dad at the OscarsWhat did Donya Fiorentino say about Gary Oldman?

Gulliver wrote: "It has been troubling and painful to see that these false allegations against my father being written about again, especially after this was all settled years ago". However, I was there at the time of the 'incident, ' so I'd like to make this radiantly clear: it didn't happen.

Oldman denied these and other allegations in the divorce proceeding, claiming they were "replete with lies, innuendoes and half-truths". I thought we had evolved. The young man also noted that his father was granted full custody with the divorce, adding, "Custody of children is not given to a wife beater, and under most circumstances, hardly ever a man".

"Congratulations, Gary and congratulations to the Academy for awarding not one but two abusers with Oscars", she told the outlet.

Fiorentino putting the Academy on blast comes after an awards season dominated by conversations around #MeToo and Time's Up, movements that aim to address and fix Hollywood's problems with sexual misconduct, inequality and power imbalances. "What happened to the #MeToo movement?" she said.

Gulliver said he ceased communication with his mother seven years ago, after concluding he and his brother were pawns in a "big game our mother has been desperately trying to play against our father". In contrast, he called Fiorentino, "a sad and very troubled person most of her life". "She didn't however, teach me how to be a part of it". He has since been in relationships with Alexandra Edenborough and Gisele Schmidt, with whom he's been married since 2017.

I understood their anger, I got why everyone was made, but I didn't want to stop loving my favorite character through all of it. "I know he is a wonderfully kind man". He "should finally be able to enjoy himself", wrote Gulliver.
