Chicago Bears: Intriguing Round 2 options in 2018 NFL Draft (Pt. 1)

The last day of workouts at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine was reserved for the defensive backs Monday and they did not disappoint.

For a player with uneven game film, it's been a very rough time in Indy. How mind-blowing was Barkley's Combine? He did exactly that.

"I've never been big on the Penn State running backs, I never have", he said. Chad Kelly, taken with the final pick of the 2017 draft, measured in at 6-1 3/4 at the scouting combine a year ago and is the shortest of the five quarterbacks Elway has selected in this draft in his tenure - Trevor Siemian and Zac Dysert each measured in at 6-2 7/8 in their pre-draft workouts.

Josh Allen was the top performer among all quarterbacks in the Combine. Among the more hard questions: defining his biggest weakness. During the combine, he proved his athleticism was more than sufficient to make the change. He lost his left hand due to a prenatal condition when he was four years old, but he's never let that limit him. He had one of the most impressive workouts for a linebacker in recent memory. It should be noted the junior completed 15 reps on the bench press. While most teams already have a grade on a majority of these players, the combine is a way to put more eyes on yourself. He really helped his draft stock. He showed instincts; he just didn't show that explosive speed to be able to compete with the top-notch running backs at the Senior Bowl. His 40 time of 4.52 was impressive for a 227-pounder. Moore checked all the boxes at the Combine starting with his testing results. His 5.85-second 40-yard dash would be the second-worst of any player ever drafted and the fifth-slowest of all players since 2003. The 10-yard split is important for defensive linemen because it measures their get off at the snap.

Outside of cornerback, San Francisco's biggest need on defense is finding a pass rusher along the edges after investing heavily along the interior in recent drafts. His 40-yard dash time (4.92 seconds) was 11th-best among all defensive linemen, and his broad jump (116 inches) was tied for seventh. Those numbers equal out to him being a tall, fast and an explosive jumper. His 21 reps was third-best among tight ends.

Meanwhile, the other drills shouldn't be overlooked especially at a position like cornerback that requires so much agility.

Some years, the two players previously mentioned - the top quarterback and the top talent available - are one in the same player. During the Combine, he showed he has the accuracy to make an National Football League roster as well. Herndon (5.57), coming off a November knee injury, only did the bench.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Barkley is "firmly" in contention to be the No. 1 overall pick. There's some concern that Ridley, who measured 6-0 and 189 pounds, may struggle to get off press coverage at the next level. Granted a medical redshirt, DeLuca came back for 2017 and was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, which goes to the top defender in FCS. He was clocked at 4.34 seconds in the 40 and had a 40-inch vertical jump; both figures were the best by any receiver at the combine.
