Mercedes-AMG C43 facelift revealed with subtle updates and more power

Visually, the Mercedes-AMG C 43 gets a new radiator grille, front apron, side skirts, round tailpipes and a spoiler lip on the boot lid.

Auto magazines speculate that the new four-door coupe will use the same 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 that delivers horsepower ranging from 469 hp to 577 hp.

Multi-beam LED headlights that can shut off individual sections of the beam to avoid dazzling other drivers are offered as standard equipment and, like the E-Class, now feature 84 individual LED chips for greater light output. It offers a 0-60 miles per hour time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of an electronically-limited 130 miles per hour. When a turn is indicated for at least two seconds, Active Lane Change Assist will aid with steering into the adjacent lane if it detects the lane is empty. It includes 384 lb-ft of torque at 2,500-5,000 rpm routed to all four wheels via Mercedes' AMG Speedshift 9-speed automatic transmission.

Rounding off the changes on the outside are modified LED headlights and taillights together with the new wheel designs available for the US -spec model in 18- or 19-inch sizes. Joining it there are a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and the "Energizing" comfort control, which generates a wellness set up to "enhance well-being and performance". A new Nappa leather AMG steering wheel, black roof liner and Natural Grain Black Ash Wood and Brushed Aluminum trim complete the interior's sporty and luxurious look.

There's a new media screen which is broader than the one used in the predecessor, a 10.25-inch unit with satellite navigation and smartphone mirroring tech.

"The high demand and positive feedback have encouraged us to sharpen up not only the appearance of the facelift, but also its performance, efficiency and dynamism in true AMG style", he said. As it is, in 2018 that's only sufficient to be competitive in the burgeoning group of sub-flagship sports saloons, of which the new Mercedes-AMG C43 aims to be the best. Full pricing and specifications will be made available closer to launch.
