Range Rover SV Coupe revealed

Just when you thought the German makers had sliced and diced the luxury market into the smallest possible niches, here comes Land Rover with the Range Rover SV Coupe, appropriately named because it pretty much squeezes all the utility out of SUV.

Inside, semi-aniline leather front seats are the most luxurious yet with gradated diamond quilt design unique to the SV Coupe. "With a dramatic two-door silhouette, this breath-taking four-seat Coupe alludes to its unique heritage while being thoroughly modern and contemporary".

Just when you think that Land Rover simply couldn't find any more SUV niches - it comes up with another. Eight paint colours are available for the coupe, including four exclusive ones. Wheels up to 23 inches in diameter are available.

The SV Coupe is the first two-door Range Rover sold in decades.

For that, you do get that supercharged 5.0-liter V8 and its corresponding 557 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, a 0-60 miles per hour time of just five seconds and a 165 miles per hour top speed.

On pavement, the Land Rover says the SV Coupe can hit 60 miles per hour in just 5.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 165 miles per hour.

Land Rover calls this "the world's first full-size luxury SUV coupe", and it may well be correct in that. The development of this limited-edition Rangie (only 999 will be available worldwide), which will lob into Australia in early 2019, was handled by Land Rover Design and Special Vehicle Operations.

Only images have surfaced at this juncture, so for now the exact specification of the SV Coupe remains to be seen, at least for the next few hours.

The interior of the model is also remarkable for the availability of contrasting color schemes.

One such option is the "Liquesence" finish, which gives the Range Rover SV Coupe a "liquid metal finish". A 1700W 23-speaker premium sound system handles audio. Power is routed to all-four-wheels through the standard eight-speed automatic transmission, returning a stellar 0-60 miles per hour sprint in just 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 165 miles per hour, more than enough to shame the SVAutobiography owners down at the golf club.

As if Land Rover needed to add "value" to the new Range Rover SV Coupe, it will be offered with an optional Care Package that covers service and maintenance for five years.

As with all Range Rovers, permanent four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer box and an active locking rear differential is standard. It sits 8 mm lower but retains a 900mm maximum wading depth and a maximum towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes. The model possesses an adjustable air suspension which can be lowered for easy entry and exit, or raised to enhance off-road ability and ground clearance.
