Rohit Sharma to lead India in Sri Lanka Tri-series

Bangladesh is the third team.

Virat Kohli and M. S. Dhoni have been rested for the Twenty20 worldwide tri-series in Sri Lanka. In Kohli's absence Rohit Sharma was named captain of the T20I team and his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan was named his deputy.

In the absence of Kohli, Rohit Sharma will lead the squad while Delhi's Rishabh Pant has been given an opportunity to test his mettle at the global level with Dinesh Karthik included as the second wicket-keeper.

With these four players being rested the inclusions are Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Vijay Shankar, Mohammed Siraj and Rishabh Pant.

The Chairman of All-India Senior Selection Committee, MSK Prasad, said: "We've kept in mind the workload and upcoming schedule while finalizing the team for Nidahas Trophy".

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has chose to rest captain Virat Kohli, wicketkeeper MS Dhoni and pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya for the series. All matches will be held at the R. Premadasa Stadium in the Sri Lankan capital. First-choice pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will also not feature in the series as the selectors handed the reins to Mumbai's Shardul Thakur, left-armer Jaydev Unadkat and rookie.

Rohit Sharma to Lead India in Tri-Series; Kohli and Dhoni on Rest: - Well, as you all know that Indian team is playing since very long time and now the co-captain cool Dhoni and Virat both are playing well and now they need to rest. Mohammad Siraj and all-rounder Vijay Shankar are also medium-pace bowling options.

Among the spinners, chinaman Kuldeep Yadav has been rested, but leggie Yuzvendra Chahal is in the squad.

A close look will indicate that selectors maintained consistency by selecting all those players, who were part of the home T20s against Sri Lanka in December.
