Nest Cam IQ gets "OK Google" support, lower monthly fee

The Cam IQ will get the Google Assistant via an update to the Nest app, and while it's now the only product in Nest's lineup to support this feature, it's expected to expand to more Nest hardware as time goes on.

One of the best things about Nest products is that they continue to get better through over-the-air software updates.

Google's voice-activated digital assistant is branching out to the Nest deluxe security camera in an expansion which could amplify privacy concerns surrounding internet-connected microphones.

This winter, you'll be able to talk to your Google Assistant right from your Nest Cam IQ indoor camera. In other words, the update essentially turns your Nest Cam IQ into a Google Home, which is quite useful if you don't already own that gadget and don't care for its more limited utility as a music speaker. Owners will also be able to control other Nest-branded smart home accessories. To try it out, just say "Hey Google" or "OK Google", followed by a question or command like "make it warmer". Or ask your Assistant to create calendar appointments and reminders. Find out more here. And today, we're announcing three new integrations between Google and Nest products that will be available soon to help make keeping your family safe and secure easier than ever before. The service, which allows continuous recording and refined vision activity alerts, came with 30-day and 10-day cloud memory banks for $30 per month and $10 per month.

In addition to the Google Assistant update, Nest is also adding a new $5 plan to its Nest Aware subscription service that gets you five days of video uploading, compared with the current $10 / 10-day and $30 / 30-day plans. Going forward, those alerts should be more accurate, as the Nest Aware can now tell the difference between people and things.

So don't miss those important moments.
